Even earlier than that, Xbox Head Phil Spencer touted the Steam Deck’s portability, controls, and performance, and even weighed in on the system’s compatibility with Microsoft’s xCloud streaming service. Vale already sent out Steam Deck development kits to game developers back in September, and these developers have had high praise for how smoothly games appear to run on this new hardware. Incidentally, this release date is the same day as the launch of Elden Ring, an upcoming high-fantasy action RPG being developed by From Software in collaboration with Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Valve will then start sending out the first wave of Steam Deck units on February 28, with plans to send out a new batch of reserved consoles every week. In a post from Steam earlier today, Valve announced that it will be allowing the first batch of customers who previously reserved a Steam Deck online to claim their pre-order within 72 hours starting on February 25 at 10 AM PST (or 1 PM EST). The people behind the Steam Deck also promised that their new portable system will avoid some of the issues that have troubled the Nintendo Switch, such as the infamous joystick drifting problem that brought Nintendo no shortage of legal troubles over the past few years. While not every Steam game will play on the Steam Deck on release, titles like The Witcher 3 have been shown to run quite well on the new hardware, and Valve has promised that in-development projects like a Half-Life RTS title will show off the Steam Deck's technical capabilities.
